Setting up your Furry Speakers
Furry speakers are designed to give a good sound in most rooms whether they are used on 600mm speaker stands or on a shelf.
Running in – all speakers need running in before they sound their best. Furry speakers take around 24 hours of running at
reasonable volume. During this time the bass will become deeper and richer whilst the treble becomes smoother and sweeter.
Room types – whilst it can be difficult to predict the response of a particular room there are a few general rules which apply for all
speakers regardless or make or design
1) Large rooms tend to sound lighter in the bass and a bit quieter, conversely small rooms tend to boost the bass and sound
quite loud.
2) Rooms with plasterboard or stud walls tend to make the sound lighter in the bass whereas rooms with ‘solid’ block walls tend to boost the bass
3) Rooms with very little soft furnishings tend to boost the mid and treble, those with large heavy curtains and lots of soft furnishings
tend to reduce the mid and treble.
4) Small speakers tend to work well in small/solid rooms whilst large speakers tend to be better in large rooms or those with stud walls
Speaker positioning – few of us have complete freedom to place our speakers optimally but a few simple guidelines may
help get the best sound
1) Placing a speaker close to the walls or floor tends to boost the bass, placing it in a corner might make it sound too boomy
2) Placing a speaker away from the walls or floor reduces the bass but tends to make the speaker sound clearer
3) Pointing the speaker straight at the listener will give the most treble but may sound too forward, pointing the speaker slightly
away from the listener will reduce the treble giving a more relaxed sound.
4) A good place to start is a metre or so away from corners, within half a metre of the back wall and angled in so the axes of
the speakers cross in front of the listener.
